We are back! Finally!

YES!!!

Three long years of not being able to access this blog is finally over - YaY!!!

Long story short, Mom got an email reply from Blogger today, a full TWO AND A HALF YEARS after she's emailed them for instructions to recover our sign-in name.

It's a close call, because the email that everything is supposed to go to, belongs to an inactive website which will be expiring in two months. Mom quickly logged onto the domain and intiated a series of email forwarding in order to reset the password for this blog.

And here we are!

Yes, yes, yes!!!

I'm so excited that I don't know what to say.....

Sorry that it's been a while....

Hi everyone!

It's been a long while since I've last updated my blog, and I'm really really sorry for that! You see, life's so-oooo busy nowadays that I hardly find enough time to rest, not to mention blogging!

Well, long story short, things have been going alright in the last couple of months and we are now one big happy family. Kimba and I are getting along fairly well most of the time and both Mom and Dad are very pleased. I am no longer going on weekly hikes with the group, but every two or three weeks I still get to hike with Dr. Susan's dog, Bug, who is my newest best friend. I'll post some photos taken during our hikes next time!

In addition, I am also attending Dr. Stanley Coren's Obedience classes with Kimba, Mom and Dad every Thursday night. Mom calls it "training party" and I feel the same too coz it's a lot of fun. It's different from the hikes but I still get to see and meet other 2 and 4-legged friends, so I am just as happy. :)

As for Kimba, he's already 6 months old and is close to 10 pounds now. He's still as mischievious as ever but I have to admit that I really love this little guy. He's just a real character!

Will blog again soon, I promise! .... Tinsel

Ewok vs. Chewbacca

It's almost 3 weeks since we brought Kimba home and we are so happy to see that Tinsel has already accepted Kimba as part of our pack. She is so tolerant with him, and his hair tugging, that at times we wonder if we have chosen the wrong puppy and that if Tinsel will be bullied by the kid when he gets bigger!

When we first took Kimba home, we were unsure how Tinsel will react and decided to keep him at Gabrielle's place for a week while we bring the two out on daily walks to play and socialize on neutral grounds. We will bring him up to our place for short visits afterwards, extending his stay from minutes to hours to eventually moving him up to our home entirely. Knowing how territorial Tinsel had been, we had thought that it would take much longer for her to even "tolerate" having Kimba at our place, but she took it really well and everything worked out a lot faster than we expected. The transition couldn't have gone so smooth if not for Gabrille who lives in the same building and who is so kind to take Kimba in for the full first week. (Well, maybe we should add, "and kinder still to let us take him back afterwards..." because she has already fallen in love with the little guy after the first two days!) Therefore, in essence, Kimba has only moved in with us for a mere 2 weeks and Tinsel has already acknowledged him as part of the family, so we can't be happier. Imagine seeing a 26 pounds Tinsel bending down to let her midget brother grab the other end of a tug toy and then standing still for him to tug with all his might. It only took her a day or two to figure out that Kimba is too small to play with her if she tugs back, so she simply stood still for him to tug at his end. And when his hair pulling got on her nerves, she will only walk away or give him a gentle growl instead of reacting full fledge and nip or bite him back. It really touches our heart to see Tinsel growing into such a sweet and gentle gal.

Another thing that we can never envision is seeing Tinsel and Kimba waiting together by our feet while dinner is being prepared. Tinsel has been so food protective that no one could get too close without getting nipped at the heels in a similar situation, but Kimba is allowed to wait (and even jump) right at our feet. Not only that it showed Tinsel has fully accepted Kimba, it also tells us that a full two years of hard work is paying off and Tinsel is really weaning out of her old habits. We are so proud of her!

Kimba, on the other hand, is growing in leaps and bounds, making his first flight up the stairs to the bedroom one day, and jumping down from the couch the other. He is growing at such a rate that it's just a matter of days before he can jump up and down the couch all by himself. At 12 weeks, he has already learned no, fetch, sit, stay, up, and even knows what to do when we say "training time" or "grooming time" etc... He is extremely smart and a bagful of joy, but he's also extremely mischievious, and sometimes it's hard just to keep up with him. For example, he's already got his tempers and will tear up his wee pads in protest at times. Auntie G. named him Kimba the Destroyer which sort of fits him, well, at least, for the time being. Likewise, Tinsel had been named Tinsel the Terrorist when she first came to us, but now she has completely grown out of that title, so we are keeping our fingers crossed and look forward to lifing the title for Kimba sometime in the near future!

Kimba Kimba

Hi folks,

Please meet our new family member, Kimba.

Kimba is a 12 weeks old Silky Terrier boy and he's been home with us for almost 2 weeks now. We introduced him to Tinsel very gradually and by now they're getting along quite well. We're quite sure that Tinsel will grow to love him dearly, but right now it seems that they still need a bit more time to get to know each other so playtime is always supervised. It's a lot of fun to see the two of them together, but it's also a huge load of work caring for them and it's literally non-stop cleaning and wiping after the little guy!

Kimba is named after one of our favorite manga character, Kimba the White Lion by Osamu Tezuka (手塚 治虫) and so far he is proving himself to be one brave and bold little guy. Despite their size differences, he will never hesitate to play with Tinsel and knows when to dodge when things get a little too rough.

Gimme gimme!

You talking to me? Can't you see I'm busy?

As you can see, he's such a cutie that even when he sleeps he just looks like one cute handsome dude!

More Later,

Ann :)

"The Island"

Last week Mom told me that if I'm lucky I may be going for an island vacation. I kept my "fingers" crossed and was so thrilled to find out that we were finally setting off for the trip on Saturday!

Mom and Dad packed a lot of stuff, loaded my crate and drove for an hour to the ferry terminal. After a short wait, we drove the car onto the ferry and it was really exciting. This was the first time I've ever gone on a ferry and I can smell the ocean! Mom also lifted me up to see the beautiful scenery and I can hardly wait to get to the island!

It was only a short drive after getting off the ferry, and we arrived at a seaside. I can smell the ocean again and I was really eager to get off to check out our vacation home...

I thought we were staying at some over-water bungalow, but... all we got was a small cedar log cottage. I hurried in to check out the place, and...

I was a bit disappointed but I thought, oh well, it's the adventure that truely counts, so I took it easy and enjoyed my stroll along the seawalk with Mom and Dad. By the time we finished dinner, I was quite exhausted (mostly from the excitement) and we all went to bed early. Then, just as I was enjoying myself in my dream vacation resort, I was waken by Mom who tried to feed me lunch. It was only 6:30 am in the morning! All I wanted to do was go back to sleep and continue my dream! And as if that's not enough, I was then dragged to this huge barn that was filled with a bunch of people and their dogs. What the --??

It was only then that I realized what Mom meant by vacation was actually "doggie boot camp".

Mom actually signed me and herself up for a training seminar in Vancouer Island and I was one of the working dogs!

*Sigh*

To make things short, I had no choice but to participate that day and was very tired when we got back to the cottage. I had a nice long stroll along the seawalk again and that was basically the best part of my day. I can hardly wait till I finished dinner and hurried back to dream of my luxurious resort vacation again...

Exploring Life

It's been a while since I last updated my blog and Mom says I'm being too lazy about it. But you just gotta understand, I'm a big city girl now so I have quite a busy lifestyle!

First, there are Spa sessions...

then there's Yoga...

Wild, wild parties...

....and, not to forget, weekly hikes...

On top of all that, we've just moved from our home in Kerrisdale (aka "the retirement neighborhood") to a funky little loft in Gastown, and I have been having loads of fun exploring my new surroundings.

There is a huge off-leash park right across and I get to go there everyday, meeting new friends and learning new things. I even got to play at the beach and, once I actually went swimming in the sea... well...by accident... and almost drowned myself. I had no idea that it's so different from the little creeks at the national park, so I just jumped off a rock and dived into the water, thinking that it will only reach my belly. Next thing I knew, I was totally submerged and didn't know what to do. Luckilly I wasn't off leash at the time so Mom pulled me back with the leash. Now that was REALLY scary! And as if that's not enough, the water was a bit murky and my coat got really yucky, so Mom had to give me a long, hot bath right away. Yikes!

I mean, with all that going on, it's kindda hard just to keep up with my daily chores, not to mention blogging! But I promise I will keep up with it and will update my blog more often from now on.

Anyway,it's getting late now and I guess I'd better catch some sleep. Mom says it's gonna be another busy day tomorrow.

See ya later, alligator!

Mui Mui - forever loved, forever missed

Two full years have gone since the night I bid farewell to my beloved Silky Terrier, Mui Mui.

The heartbreaking moment as I cradled her in my arms and sang her one final lullaby.

The Pain of saying Goodbye.

The Guilt of making the decision to let go.

The Grief of losing a loving friend and companion.

The Uncertainty over what awaits her after life.

If we could just have a bit more time together...

How I missed her soft furry body, sweet loving kisses, delicate baby scent and stinky, sweaty feet.

The little "bitch" with an attitude, who has and always will be, the ever-so-special girl in my heart.

Luv you always and forever, Ann

Forza Italia!

I thought I'm a CBT (Canadian-born Tibetan Terrier) but just now Mom and Auntie Gabrielle dressed me up in a gorgeous dress that says "Italia" on the back with an Italian flag on the chest. So I guess I'm an Canadian-born Italian Tibetan? Or Canadian born Tibetan Italian? Geez! What am I really?

I think I am having an identity crisis now...

What? You guys want to play ball?

OK. I got it now. I'm supposed to be some Cheer-Leader for Team Italy? No problemo! I'll just lie here and cheer then. No way I'm ever gonna play fetch in a dress, especially such a pretty one.

Forza Italia!

Ball-ball mania

Mom and Dad have been acting a bit weird lately.

They will be sitting in front of the tele at funny hours (when they should be working) and get all excited about some guy chasing after a ball. At times they will just jump up and yell, scaring the hell out of me. I just don't understand what the craze was about when those humans couldn't even fetch a ball back properly. This morning was the worst because both Mom and Dad were really nervous and they went crazy when some guy in a blue shirt lost his grip on the ball and chased it right into a net. They jumped up screaming and hugging each other, almost crushing me in between. I just couldn't figure out what the fuss is about!

Now I am overhearing something about Auntie Gabrielle sleeping over this Saturday night for the "Finals" and "BBQ" on Sunday. Finals? BBQ? Things are getting weirder and weirder around here.

Grounded...

I have been plotting on getting full-time off-leash rights for over a week now, and finally got the chance today to give my Sens-ations collar a good chew when Mom was putting on her shoes. Thought that would get my message across, but...

**Sigh**

Mom just turned around and put a Gentle Leader collar on me without saying a word and I realized how stupid I was to pull a stunt like that. Gentle Leader collars go right up on my face and I really hated it. Now I only hope this will be temporary and Mom will be getting me a new Sens-ations collar soon. Last time I chewed up my donut bed, I had to sleep on a thin towel for a good two weeks before Mom would get me a new one. I just hope I don't have to wait too long for the new Sens-ations to arrive.

**Sigh**

Unleashed!

I've finally gone off-leash!

Today Mom decided to let me try hiking off-leash and I behaved as well as I could. I followed the pack and ran back to Mom whenever she called, so she was really pleased and announced that I can go off-leash during our hikes as long as the trails are not too busy. Yay!
Mom's so proud of me that she kept praising me all day, and I am really happy too because I know I'm getting better and better everyday. Maybe if I work harder I can go off leash during our walks in our neighborhood too, who knows? Hmmm... maybe I can think of a way to pursuade Mom...

Me a week ago, still on a 30-feet leash

And this is me today - unleashed!

Collie for adoption in Hong Kong (by Ann)

A friend who is fostering a Collie in Hong Kong has to leave HK within very short notice (June 28) and is desperately looking to re-home the poor Collie. Anyone interested please contact her directly as she will be leaving very soon and poor Stevie Ray will have to go back to the pound if no one can take him in before she departs. Even though he is blind, he moves and acts like a normal dog and he is extremely loving, so please, give him a chance if you could...

Goodbye - my first date...

It's very sad to know that my first walking buddy, Max, went across the Bridge last Thursday evening because of heart failure. We had our last and final walk that afternoon at the regional park and had a great time. It's sad to bid him farewell, but I know he was happy and content that he got to say his final goodbyes to his buddies as well as his Mom before crossing over.

I will always miss him and his gentlemanly ways - such a kind and gentle soul.

Goodbye Max, until we meet again...

Three Months' Itch and the Chinese Concubine

Shortly after I moved in with Mom and Dad, I started developing an intolerable itch around my face and neck. I would scratch all day and all through the night. Thinking that I might have fleas, Mom shaved me down but found nothing. In the end I scratched so badly that I bled all over my face, so off to the vet I went. At first it was suspected that I had some sort of bacterial infection, but biopsy results were negative, so the vet suggested putting me on hydrocortisones. Mom objected right away because she knows that steriods and hydrocortisones are not good for the body and should not be used unless as a last resort. She took me to a homeopathic vet instead who suggested changing me onto a completely raw diet starting with alternative meat proteins instead of the common chicken and beef (common allergens in dogs). That got me started on yummy, wholesome foods like salmon, bison and pheasant, which were either wild or organic (hormone-free and antibiotic-free) - yum yum. I was also given some homeopathic remedies with herbal antihistamines and wild salmon oil. My itch improved almost immediately but then my biopsy wounds were starting to heal and got really itchy, so I started scratching again. Eventhough I had an E-collar, I utilized my Yoga skills and managed to stretch my feet up through the opening of the E-collar so I can scratch whenever Mom's not looking. BAD idea. The wounds would open up again and again so I could never heal completely.

Very soon, Mom caught up with my tricks, and modified the E-collar so I cannot scratch anymore, at least at night when Mom and Dad's asleep. During the day, Mom will stay with me and watch me all the time, so I could take off my "fencing mask" and rest my shoulders.

"The Fencing Mask" - mesh screen sewn onto an E-collar

However, the itch was still so unbearable that I would steal a scratch whenever I could. All it took was one or two hearty scratches and the wounds will be bleeding again.

Finally Mom igeniously created another gadget which helped to solve the problem:

The "Chinese Concubine" with "dainty feet"?

This is another pix showing Mom's creativity - the socks would stay on to act as a buffer if I did manage to steal a few scratches, so the wounds would not open up so easily:

Getting ready for bed now...

Well, the whole ordeal took about 3 months and you can imagine how relieved I was when I didn't itch anymore!

What a Blissful day

Midget Sheep?
Nah! It's just me after hiking in the rain.

It has been raining the day before so I had thought that the hike will be cancelled, but Mom kept her promise and took me out to hike with Lisa at the Pacific Spirit Park yesterday. As usual, Lisa brought a bunch of furkids with her, so I get to meet a good pawful of new friends! Despite the weather (which I don't really mind), I had a great time because I am really learning to enjoy being around friends now. Mom says she's really proud of me, but I think I really have to thank Dawn, Cheyanna and Lisa (and the rest of the gang, of course,) for being so sensitive to my special needs because otherwise I wouldn't have improved so much in just a few months. If you know my history, you'll be surprised that I can even come this far, for I have already been through two awesome professional trainers who have both felt that I have reached my limits. But with Mom's persistence and support from my dog walking buddies, I have now progressed far more than anyone would have expected and Mom feels that I will be a normal and friendly gal someday. (I've overheard something about considering letting me go off-leash at the hikes soon!) Mom says I am indebted to everyone who has helped to get me where I am today - thanks guys! :)

Two and a half hours later... all cleaned and groomed, but totally exhausted.

I know, I know..... I am still young and all, but hey! I have hiked at least a good 3 - 4 miles, and, we're talking about muddy tracks here! Not to mention that I had to jump around and chase after the others from time to time!

And before I sign off for the day, here's me another half hour later:

You really have to zoom in (click photo) to see my face.
I was so groggy from my nap that I forgot I had my tongue sticking out!

Ahhhh... what a blissful day!

A little background about myself...

FROM 11 months to 2 years of age:

Occupation: CDO (Chief Demanding Officer), the Tibetan TERROR

Hobbies: herding (humans), (counter) surfing, sightseeing (from my window sill and barking at passers-by), wrestling (humans), sprinting (catch me if you can), eating (anything that I can get to)

Favorite Food: I'm a real foodie, coz I like anything that I can chew up and eat, but the absolute delicacy is definitely my own homemade poop (yup, you got it right, my own p-o-o-p!)

Favorite Music: W & B (Whine & Bark)

Dislikes: 2-legged males (they're scary); other animals (including dogs); moving objects that I'm not familiar with; people (anyone I don't know, especially those with hats or umbrellas); bicycles, rollerblades, skateboards, strollers; and most of all KIDS! They are loud and they run!!

FROM 2 years and after:

Occupation: Dogi (the doggie Yoga Master), Femme fatale-in-training (still brushing up my courting skills)

Hobbies: hiking & training (with my 2-legged and 4-legged friends), walks (especially with Mom & Lisa, my favorite dog walker), sightseeing (from my window sill, quietly observing passers-by), wrestling (with my favorite toys), grooming (quality-time with Mom), snow-sprinting (yoo-hoo!), eating (OK, I'm talking about real food now, guys!)

Favorite Food: basically all raw organic meat and veggies (yes, I'm a BARFER), but I do have cravings for those yummy bully sticks all the time

Favorite Music: hmmm... not too sure anymore coz I have grown out of W & B myself...

Dislikes: getting the cold shoulder from Mom and Dad; meeting pushy or over-friendly people (no staring & no holding hands on the first date!); kids (they're still loud and they still run); and maybe some unfamiliar objects BUT I'm learning to cope with them, so hopefully I'll grow out of it someday

Last but not the least, here's some pix of my Yoga sessions... Namaste!

P.S. No, no one tortured me... as I did that on my own - see why I'm rightfully a Dogi Master now? :)

Howdy from Tinsel

Hi there! I'm Tinsel, a two and a half years old Tibetan Terrier. I am also known as Tinsel the Tibetan TERROR or Dogi Tin, the doggie yoga master. I'll tell you all about those later, but first lemme tell you a little bit more about myself:

Well, I have been living in Vancouver, B.C., with my forever mom and dad for about 16 months now, but I was originally a country girl where I got acres and acres of private land to run around in. City living is really a bit too much for me so mom decides that maybe it will help if I have some virtual space of my own, at least to vent out some of my issues, you know.

So what caused a cute, sexy and energetic babe like me to drift around so much at such a young age? Hmmm... good question. Call of fate, I guess. See, my parents were both show champions living with my Granny and I had thought I would stay with them forever too. I had a great time during the early days of my childhood but it was short-lived. When I turned 2 months old, a lady came and took me away to live with her and her two humongous 80 pound dogs. Yes, I am talking 80 pounds a piece, and all I got was a mere few pounds myself! Imagine how scary and tough life was then... I had to defend myself and constantly fought for food and toys. Very soon I learned that in order to get anything (or keep anything) I have to be very bold and show my teeth or nip when needed. I did that a couple of times when I was taken out to "work" at the show rings and my lady boss didn't like that very much, so I was eventually left at home when the others went out to "work" with her. I was lonely, sad and bored so I started chewing things and licking my feet, which really got to the boss, so finally one day she said she had enough of me and took me back to Granny's.

I had thought I would stay with Granny from then on, but shortly after, my forever Mom and Dad came and took me home. Honestly, I wasn't so sure of that at first because I really didn't care much for Dad. As a matter of fact, I didn't like two-legged males very much because I thought they're dangerous. They'll snatch your food and toys from you and will even beat you up if they had the chance. But Mom was alright, and she gave me lots of hugs and kisses which scared me a bit at first. Well, you see, I was never kissed by a human before so I had no idea what that loud "smack" was, and I thought she was going to nip me. Silly me! Anyways, that marked the beginning of my life in the city and with Mom and Dad here in Vancouver.
More later....
